William Roberts writes ‘The East is Red’ newsletter about U.S.-China relations on Substack. He is a veteran Washington, D.C.-based journalist who has reported on national politics and foreign relations for Al Jazeera, Bloomberg, and the Journal of Commerce since 1994. He was in the U.S. Senate press gallery on September 11, 2001, and covered the presidency of George W. Bush as a member of the White House media pool. Previously he reported on business and economics in Philadelphia and New York. Roberts holds a B.A. in journalism from Washington and Lee University.
