George Kopits
George Kopits
George Kopits is a member of Portugal’s Public Finance Council. Previous positions include: chair, Fiscal Council in Hungary (2009-11); member, Monetary Council, National Bank of Hungary (2004-09); assistant director, International Monetary Fund (1974-2003); and financial economist, Office of the Secretary, U.S. Treasury (1968-74). Besides involvement in fiscal and monetary policymaking in Hungary and the United States, Kopits headed technical assistance teams on various economic policy issues in Asia, Europe and Latin America. He has held visiting academic appointments at Bocconi, Cape Town, Central European, Johns Hopkins, Siena and Vienna universities. He earned a Ph.D. in economics from Georgetown University.
